The challenge
The company, a globally recognized office furniture manufacturer, sought to expand its direct-to-consumer and commercial sales presence through a Shopify storefront while maintaining Brightpearl as the authoritative system for order management and inventory. Operating two sales channels — DTC and commercial — introduced complexity around order routing, product catalog management, and inventory availability that could not be managed manually at scale.
What we built
- Integrated Shopify storefront with Brightpearl OMS so all incoming orders, regardless of channel, flowed automatically into Brightpearl for centralized processing
- Built bidirectional inventory sync ensuring Shopify product availability reflected Brightpearl stock levels in real time, preventing oversell across DTC and commercial orders
- Implemented product catalog management logic so Brightpearl served as the master catalog, pushing updates to Shopify automatically on product and pricing changes
- Configured order fulfillment status and shipment tracking data to flow from Brightpearl back to Shopify, keeping customers informed without manual updates
- Established channel-specific order tagging within Brightpearl to differentiate DTC and commercial orders for reporting and fulfillment prioritization
The outcome
- Unified order management across DTC and commercial channels within a single Brightpearl workflow, eliminating dual data-entry requirements
- Shopify inventory accuracy improved substantially, reducing the risk of overselling across high-demand commercial furniture SKUs
- Catalog update propagation time from Brightpearl to Shopify reduced from manual batch processes to automated near-real-time sync
- Operations team enabled to support multiple sales channels from one platform without proportional headcount growth
