The challenge
The company is a high-volume distributor of firearms, ammunition, and tactical equipment operating Microsoft Dynamics GP as their core ERP. The business needed to optimize carrier selection and automate label generation across multiple carriers, but Dynamics GP had no native connection to a multi-carrier shipping platform. Shipping staff manually compared carrier rates and entered shipment data back into GP, creating inefficiency and tracking data gaps in the ERP.
What we built
- Integrated Microsoft Dynamics GP with ShipHawk to pass order data automatically to ShipHawk for multi-carrier rate shopping and label generation
- Configured carrier selection rules within ShipHawk reflecting The company's carrier preferences, account rates, and shipment weight and dimension profiles
- Built automated shipment confirmation write-back from ShipHawk to Dynamics GP so tracking numbers, carrier selections, and shipment costs are recorded on ERP sales orders without manual entry
- Implemented packing and cartonization logic within ShipHawk to optimize box selection for wholesale shipments of varying product types
- Established exception alerting for orders that fail to route through ShipHawk so fulfillment staff can intervene before carrier pickup windows close
The outcome
- Automated carrier rate shopping across multiple carriers for every outbound wholesale shipment, replacing manual rate comparison
- Eliminated manual tracking number entry into Dynamics GP, keeping ERP order records current and accurate
- Reduced fulfillment processing time per order by removing the manual handoff between the ERP and shipping station
