The challenge
The company is a growing specialty food brand expanding distribution into mainstream grocery retail, where large buyers transact exclusively via EDI through SPS Commerce. Without automation, each retail purchase order received via EDI required manual processing into Sage Intacct — making it impossible to scale grocery distribution without a proportional increase in back-office overhead.
What we built
- Integrated SPS Commerce EDI with Sage Intacct to automate retail purchase order processing end-to-end
- Mapped EDI 850 purchase orders from grocery and specialty retail buyers into Sage Intacct sales orders with trading-partner-specific field logic
- Automated EDI 856 advance ship notice and 810 invoice generation from Sage Intacct fulfillment events back to SPS Commerce
- Built item and customer master sync between Sage Intacct and SPS Commerce to maintain accurate trading partner records
- Implemented EDI compliance monitoring to detect and alert on document errors before they affect retailer scorecards
The outcome
- Eliminated manual EDI-to-ERP processing, enabling The company to onboard new retail buyers without adding headcount
- Improved EDI compliance scores with retail trading partners through accurate, automated document exchange
- Reduced order-to-ship cycle time as retail purchase orders flow directly into Sage Intacct for immediate fulfillment action
- Created a scalable retail distribution infrastructure supporting continued grocery channel expansion
