What GS1 EDI covers
GS1 publishes the GS1 EDI standards and guidelines that retail and consumer goods partners use to exchange business documents. In North America that means the GS1 US guidelines for ANSI X12 (formerly VICS EDI). Internationally it means GS1 EANCOM, GS1's subset of UN/EDIFACT, along with GS1 XML.
EDI documents we integrate
| X12 | Document | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 850 | Purchase Order | Brings retailer orders straight into your ERP |
| 855 | PO Acknowledgment | Confirms quantities, prices and ship dates back to the buyer |
| 860/865 | PO Change | Handles buyer-initiated changes without manual edits |
| 856 | Advance Ship Notice | Sends carton-level shipment detail tied to SSCC labels |
| 810 | Invoice | Bills accurately against the PO and ASN |
| 846 | Inventory Advice | Shares available stock with retailers and marketplaces |
| 852 | Product Activity | Pulls sell-through and on-hand data from retail partners |
| 940/945 | Warehouse Ship Order/Advice | Connects orders and confirmations with your 3PL |
| 997 | Functional Acknowledgment | Confirms every document was received and accepted |
Why GS1 EDI breaks, and how we prevent it
Most retailer chargebacks trace back to a late or inaccurate 856 ASN, a GS1-128 label that does not match it, or an invoice that does not reconcile. We build validation into each flow so problems are caught before a document leaves your system.
- GTIN and GLN check-digit validation on every inbound and outbound document
- SSCC labels generated from the same data as the 856
- Partner-specific rules from each retailer's EDI guide and routing guide
- 997 tracking and alerts when a document is rejected
