How should a label relate to the ASN?

The SSCC on the carton must match the SSCC in the ASN, and the contents must match the order. The label and 856 are produced from one source of truth.

Are shipping label formats retailer-specific?

Retailer-specific formats are driven by each partner's routing guide. Labels carry SSCC, ship-to GLN and PO data.

SSCC & GS1-128 Shipping Label Integration

A compliant GS1-128 label is only half the job; the SSCC on the carton has to match the SSCC in your ASN, and the contents have to match the order.
